About the Pastor of Shepherding and Preaching:
The Pastor of Shepherding and Preaching, in plurality with the elder team, fervently seeks to discern the Lord’s unique will and vision for New City Fellowship, to fulfill the vision of the church “to be a diverse community that proclaims the gospel and makes disciples for the glory of God and the renewal of our city.” They work together diligently to develop, implement, and uphold this vision under the guidance of the Lord.
The Pastor of Shepherding and Preachingis considered “first among equals” on the elder team, sharing mutual accountability. Together they provide spiritual oversight, bearing overall responsibility for the church in the areas of doctrine, direction, discipline, and discipleship.
The Pastor of Shepherding and Preaching's Responsibilities Include:
Preaching
-
Serve as the primary preacher for approximately 90% of Sunday services.

Prioritize expository preaching, demonstrating a deep commitment to the authority of God’s word.

Exhibit a genuine love for the Bible, ensuring that preaching is gospel-centered, with the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus at the core.
Shepherding
-
Build and nurture close relationships with congregation members and provide pastoral care.

Identify and create discipleship opportunities by teaching, connecting, encouraging, and exhorting members.

Pray for others in public and private settings.

Humbly provides counsel to difficult life situations such as marital struggles, grief, family issues, and more.
Miscellaneous

Facilitate consistent outreach opportunities and mobilize the congregation to serve the community.

Oversee the membership process and classes.

Lead and coordinate elder meetings.

Education & Experience

An undergraduate degree is required; A Master’s Degree in Bible, Theology, or Ministry is preferred.

A minimum of 10 years of ministry experience in some capacity is strongly preferred
