About the Head of School:

The Head of School is a key leadership role responsible for the overall administration, operation, and growth of a private Christian PreK-12 school. This position requires a strong commitment to Christian values, educational leadership, and the ability to foster a Christ-centered learning environment. The Head of School will oversee academic programs, faculty and staff management, financial operations, and strategic planning, ensuring alignment with the school’s mission and values.

The Head of School’s responsibilities include:

The Head of School operates under the supervision of the Board and is responsible for the following duties:

  • Budget Development: Assist the Treasurer in developing an annual budget for submission to the Board for approval.
  • Operational Management: Operate the School within the parameters of the Board-approved budget, policies, and directives.
  • Payroll Management: Handle all payroll matters and record hours worked by hourly and part-time personnel.
  • Staff Management: Employ and supervise all faculty and professional staff.
  • Financial Reporting: Submit a written monthly financial statement to the Board.
  • Curriculum Development: Evaluate, select, and purchase necessary educational materials.
  • Staff Evaluation: Conduct annual written evaluations of the teaching staff.
  • Student Discipline: Handle student discipline matters.
  • Assessment and Testing: Establish and implement a school-wide program of standardized testing to evaluate the educational program.
  • Progress Reporting: Submit a written report to the Board concerning the School’s progress at regular monthly meetings.
  • Administrative Authority: Exercise additional authority as necessary for the orderly administration of the School under Board supervision.
  • Transportation Management: Organize and supervise the School’s transportation system.
  • Annual Reporting: Prepare an annual report for joint public release by the Board and the Administrator.
  • Exit Interviews: Conduct exit interviews with withdrawing parents/guardians and report reasons for withdrawal to the Board.
  • Job Descriptions: Prepare job descriptions for faculty and professional staff.
  • Succession Planning: Prepare the Assistant Administrator to assume duties in the event of an unexpected absence.
  • Contractual Authority: Sign contracts or agreements authorized by the Board on behalf of the School.

What you bring

Education and experience

  • Master’s degree (required) in  Educational Administration, Educational Leadership, or a related field.
  • ACSI Head of School certification or state-specific administrative certification (recommended).
  •  Teaching Experience: At least five years of teaching experience in a public or private school setting.
  • Administrative Experience: At least five years of experience in school administration, preferably in a Christian school environment.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead and manage a team effectively.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Financial Management: Ability to manage budgets and financial reports.
  • Strategic Planning: Experience in strategic planning and development.
  • Technology Skills: Proficiency in computer and web-based tools.

Personal characteristics and qualifications

  • Personal Faith and Commitment: The Head of School must provide public testimony to their personal faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and reaffirm annually in writing their complete agreement with and belief in the School’s Statement of Faith.
  •  Character and Conduct: Must exemplify the Lord Jesus Christ in all aspects of life and maintain a reputation that does not bring reproach upon the School’s testimony.
