  • Growing Next Gen Ministry & Focus:  The church has restructured its staffing model to support young families’ recent growth and excitement.  The Director of Student Ministries will work with two team members (the Next Gen/Community Engagement Director and the Kids Director) and 40-plus volunteers to align the Next Gen ministry and create a solid student spiritual foundation.

About the Director of Student Ministry

The Director of Student Ministries will lead a dynamic ministry to high and middle school students. The desired candidate must be passionate about ministry to youth, a builder, an initiator, and a team player. In addition, the candidate must be an excellent communicator, possess outstanding relational skills, be fun-loving, and be willing to work hard to grow this ministry from the ground up. The church is committed to hiring an additional student ministry staff member when the ministry’s growth to students warrants such an addition.

The Director of Student Ministry responsibilities include:

  • Collaborate with the NextGen team, shaping the future of ministry to children and students.
  • Implement a NextGen strategy that draws families into the church and launches high school students into a lifetime of growing faith in Jesus.
  • Recruit and lead a Student Leadership Team.
  • Complete scheduling activities for a weekly youth group, special events, and retreats.
  • Recruit, shepherd, build community, and encourage the spiritual health of volunteer teams. Provide support, care, and resources as needed.
  • Ensure adequate support for all student ministry programs. Be able to step into any area of ministry to students, including welcoming families, facilitating large or small groups, coaching, or providing creative support with music, design, or tech.
  • Responsible for the safety of all students, ensuring adult and student leaders are screened, participating in mandated training, and maintaining healthy boundaries per CA ab506 and Piedmont Community
  • Church NextGen child safety policies.
  • Ensure all elements for NextGen High School programs are prepared and ready for weekly group meetings, retreats, and special event programming.
  • Develop and oversee high school life groups.
  • Develop and lead a comprehensive annual Confirmation Class
  • Collaborate with church and NextGen staff to support events and services to reach our community (including Easter, Christmas Eve, Snow Day, and other events.)
  • Additional duties and special events assigned by the Senior Pastor.

Education and experience

  • A college degree and a minimum of 3-5 years working with students are required. Volunteer experience with youth will be considered. Some theological education is preferred.
