Founded in 1974 and located near the NASA Johnson Space Center, the church has a mission of becoming a family of Christ followers, connecting people with God’s Kingdom.

About the Director of Student Ministries

The Director of Student Ministries is responsible for leading and overseeing all aspects of the church’s ministry to intermediate and high school students, fostering spiritual growth, and coordinating activities, discipleship, and outreach programs in alignment with the church’s mission and values.

The Director of Student Ministries responsibilities include:

  • Foster Spiritual Growth:
    • Establish and promote a solid biblical foundation for students.
    • Help students learn how to seek God’s will in their lives.
    • Encourage and nurture students’ relationships with Christ.
    • Provide opportunities for students to grow in their faith through Bible study, prayer, and discipleship.
  1. Lead Biblical Teaching:
    • Ensure students gain biblical knowledge and understand the Bible’s relevance to their daily lives.
    • Teach apologetics and help students learn how to defend their faith.
    • Offer in-depth Bible study opportunities that challenge students’ beliefs and deepen their understanding of scripture.
  1. Build Community and Relationships:
    • Plan and execute regular gatherings, outings, and fellowship activities to promote relationship-building among students.
    • Be inclusive and relational, ensuring that all students feel welcomed and supported, especially those who may struggle to connect.
    • Create a space for cross-grade interactions and encourage relationships between students of different ages and backgrounds.
  1. Be a Pastoral Leader:
    • Serve as a spiritual mentor and role model for students, demonstrating Christlike character and leadership.
    • Be approachable and engaged in students’ lives, attending their events and showing care for their well-being.
    • Listen to and connect with students on a personal level, offering guidance and pastoral support as needed.
  1. Collaborate with Staff,  Parents, and Volunteers:
    • Partner with UBC Staff to incorporate the Student Ministry into the church’s overall strategic plan. 
    • Engage with parents, offering guidance on how to support their students’ spiritual growth.
    • Encourage parental involvement in the ministry through volunteering and prayer.
    • Work with and lead  volunteers in creating  a supportive and nurturing environment for students, including recruiting and training volunteers for events and small groups.
  1. Organize and Lead Events:
    • Coordinate a variety of events that foster community and provide spiritual growth, including fellowship activities (e.g. games, hangouts, student Sunday nights out) and service opportunities.
    • Ensure that events are inclusive and welcoming to all students, regardless of their social tendencies.
  1. Maintain a Safe and Supportive Environment:
    • Ensure that all activities and programs are conducted in a safe and supportive atmosphere, encouraging respect and care among students and volunteers.
    • Support students in making connections with each other and ensure that their emotional and spiritual needs are met.
    • Ensure that appropriate boundaries between students and volunteers is a clear priority and expectation amongst students, parents, and volunteers. 

By fulfilling these responsibilities, the Student Pastor will effectively nurture the faith and community of UBC’s student ministry, helping students grow spiritually and connect with each other and the church.

What you bring

The following describes many of the characteristics of the ideal candidate for the Director of Student Ministries:

Education and experience

  • At least a Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., Theology, Ministry, Biblical Studies, or Christian Education).
  • Preference for candidates who are pursuing or have completed a Master’s degree from an accredited seminary (e.g., Master of Divinity or Master of Arts in Ministry, Theology, or a similar field).

Knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • Character: The Student Pastor is expected to embody strong Christian character, displaying integrity, humility, and authenticity. They should be a role model for students, demonstrating Christlike behavior in both personal and professional life.
  • Relational Skills: The Student Pastor must possess excellent relational skills, being approachable, compassionate, and able to connect with a diverse group of students. They should prioritize building trust and meaningful relationships, creating a welcoming environment for all students.
  • Spiritual Maturity: A deep and mature relationship with God is crucial. The Student Pastor should be spiritually grounded, able to mentor students in their faith, and capable of offering sound biblical guidance and wisdom. Their spiritual maturity should guide them in addressing the needs and challenges students face in their faith journeys.
  • Critical Leadership Role: The Student Pastor is seen as a pivotal figure within the church, tasked with nurturing and leading the next generation of believers. Their leadership will directly influence the spiritual growth and development of the Student Ministry, making it essential that they align with the church’s values and goals.

Personal characteristics and qualifications

  • Energetic: Must be enthusiastic, vibrant, and able to engage with students in an exciting and authentic  way.
  • Personable: Should be approachable, relational, and capable of building meaningful connections with students, parents, and volunteers.
  • Passion for Teaching Scripture: A deep love for teaching the Bible and helping students understand and apply Scripture to their lives. The ideal candidate should be able to communicate biblical truths in an engaging, relevant, and understandable way.
