Meet Good Shepherd Lutheran Church

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church is Christ-centered, Bible-believing, and Spirit-filled. The congregation is united by a mission to “love God, love others, and make disciples,” inspired by the Great Commandment in Mark 12:29-31 and the Great Commission in Matthew 28:18-20 (GC squared).

Loving God and loving others with the love of Christ brings the church into missions through partnerships with local ministries and extended missions through youth mission trips to inner cities and reservations. Good Shepherd’s joy is to serve the Lord together locally and globally as a church.

Looking for a heart for high tradition

The church needed to fill a crucial role for its team and mission: the youth and family minister. This position is essential for making and sending disciples in a church where mission work involves the whole congregation. Good Shepherd would need to find someone who has a heart for high tradition and matches its charismatic theology. With a specific vision in mind for its unicorn candidate, the church decided to enlist outside help.

Matching Good Shepherd’s vision

The Good Shepherd staff partnered with Vanderbloemen and connected with Executive Search Consultant Eric Albert. Eric spent time getting to know the Good Shepherd staff and building a profile for their unicorn candidate.

Eric then worked alongside Executive Search Recruiter Will Hancock to begin a thorough process of collecting and sifting through applications. With a large number of applicants but a specific vision in mind, applications were sorted with a fine-tooth comb.

A perfect match

One candidate stood out who checked all Good Shepherd’s boxes. Shamber Brown, who applied from Holland, MI, stood out for being a theological match, having experience with youth and young adult ministry, and having a vast array of relevant skills for the job.

Shamber’s authentic heart for church history and theology was evident early on. She loves evangelism and connecting with students in their day-to-day lives, plus she knows how to recruit and train volunteers—checked off Good Shepherd’s wishlist items.

The team at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church was overjoyed to end their search by placing Shamber in their youth and family minister position.
