Meet Breakaway Ministries

Breakaway Ministries is one of the largest on-campus Bible studies in the nation. Breakaway exists to help any and every college student at Texas A&M and Blinn to take either their first or next step with Jesus Christ.

Every week,  anywhere from 1,500-7,000 college students gather in an athletic venue on the campus of Texas A&M University to study God’s Word and worship through singing. Breakaway is made possible by 7 full-time staff members and approximately 300 student volunteers.

Casting vision in new ways

Breakaway Ministries was in need of a new executive  director when their former executive director transitioned to serving full time as a church pastor. Breakaway’s main priority is to reach and connect with the students in College Station. With this position, Breakaway needed someone that had  proven full-time ministry experience in leading, managing and developing a team.

The executive director in responsible for ensuring that the core values of Breakaway (dependent, family-minded, storytellers, stewards, pacesetters) are being maximized among the staff. The Breakaway team desired someone who could cast vision in new ways for Breakaway.

Having these things in mind, Breakaway reached out to Vanderbloemen for help finding the right guy for the job.

Someone who can enable and empower

Our consultant Eric Albert, is a former Aggie that regularly attended Breakaway while he was a student at Texas A&M. He spent some time with Breakaway, and met all the  staff members and board members.

The Breakaway team really values their culture, so the potential candidate had to meet the requirements that Breakaway was looking for. Breakaway expressed how they wanted someone who can  enable and empower the staff.  Breakaway’s main goal and reason for existence is to have college students get plugged into local churches and strengthen their relationships with Christ.

Meet Brian, Canadian-born and Texas-raised

After all the searching and interviewing, there were so many outstanding candidates for the position.  The board was able to decide on their final candidate, Brian McCormack to join the Breakaway family.

Brian is Canadian-born and Texas-raised. He has been in ministry and church planting for over a decade and eager to return home to Texas. Brian previously founded Reach Church and has been the lead pastor for over 10 years.  Brian’s heart and passion is to lead the next generation, and coach young leaders to be equipped for ministry. He loves teaching young adults about the Bible.

Brian and his wife Emily along with their five children will be moving from Seattle, Washington to College Station, Texas.  He will be leading the next generation of young adults and continuing the legacy of Breakaway. The basketball arena where he signed to play basketball for college, will now be the place where he will  teach a full  arena of college students about Jesus Christ.
