About the Student Pastor

The Student Pastor is called by God to assist the Senior Pastor in fulfilling the Church’s mission and vision. The Student Pastor reports directly to the Senior Pastor.  He is responsible for overseeing the Church’s student ministry and engaging in pastoral care.  The Student Pastor must meet all Scriptural qualifications as listed in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9.

The Students Pastor’s responsibilities include:

  • Assists the Senior Pastor in leading the students and congregation in effective ministry to fulfill the Church’s vision and mission.
  • Serves as a member of the Elder Council.
  •  Provides spiritual guidance, mentorship, and counseling to middle and high school students, significantly sharing the entire gospel message with them to help them grow in their relationship with God and navigate life’s challenges from a biblical perspective.
  • Leads and oversees regular youth group meetings, creating and sustaining an environment of worship, learning, fellowship, fun, life application, sharing faith and discipleship.
  • Organizes and facilitates various youth events, retreats, missions’ trips, camps, and special activities. This obviously ensures that they align with the church’s values and goals.
  • Prepares and delivers engaging and relevant teachings, sermons, and lessons that effectively communicate biblical truths to youth and, at times, adults, in a relatable and understandable manner.
  • Recruits, trains, and supervises volunteers who will assist in Student Ministry activities, ensuring a safe, welcoming and supportive environment for young people.
  • Builds positive and meaningful relationships with young people, their families, and the wider church community, fostering a sense of belonging, trust, and support.
  • Encourages and equips students to share their faith with others, actively engaging in outreach efforts and evangelistic opportunities within the community.
  • Handles administrative duties related to Student Ministry, such as budget management, record-keeping, communication with parents and guardians, and coordination with other church staff members.
  • Collaborates with other church ministries, such as FBC Kids ministry, worship teams, and pastoral staff, to ensure seamless integration of Student activities and initiatives within the broader church community.
  • Builds relationships with local schools.
  • Pursues ongoing personal and professional development through reading, attending conferences, networking, and staying updated on current trends and resources in Student ministry.
  • Adheres to the Church’s Bylaws, Policies, and Procedures adopted by the Church.
  • Gives full support biblically to the Budget of the Church.
  •  Performs other duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor.

Pastoral Care Responsibilities

  • Functions as a pastor to the students and the congregation, being available to build relationships, counsel, visit, and otherwise pastor students and the congregation as a whole.
  • Assists in visiting and ministering to members and prospective members in homes, nursing care facilities, and hospitals.
  • Actively visits people in crisis situations.
  • Assists in preaching and teaching, conducting counseling sessions, performing wedding ceremonies, and conducting funeral services when needed.

  • Strong communication skills with students, volunteers, and parents: Experience in discipleship ministry is also often preferred.

  • Maintains an ongoing personal relationship with God through daily spiritual disciplines such as Bible reading and prayer.
  • Maintains proper priorities at home with his wife and family.
  • Maintains a positive personal witness in both the church and the community.
