Meet Community Christian Church
Community Christian Church is catalyzing a global movement of small groups and micro-churches as they seek to transform the world one person and one neighborhood at a time. They began in 1989 as the dream of 5 friends from college who wanted to create a place that would help people find their way back to God. Community has a threefold vision, including being an Impact Church, Reproducing Church, and a Catalyst for Movement. In 2021, Community formed NewThing, a church-planting mission that now includes churches all over the world.
Opportunity
Community Christian Church needed to find a Community and Teaching Pastor for their Carillon campus, which serves a gated 55+ retirement community. The Community Christian Church at Carillon’s members include residents of the retirement community and individuals from the surrounding community. The success and growth of this church plant hinged on placing a candidate who matched with Community’s heart, culture, and needs.
Solution
Staff at Community partnered with Vanderbloemen to expand their reach and place their community pastor quickly. Senior Executive Search Consultant Tim Gocha met with Community’s key staff for the search to outline exactly what qualities their new community pastor would need. Tim got to know the culture at Community, their heart for Jesus, discipleship, and equipping others. They needed to find someone who would share the same heart for their mission, vision, and beliefs.
The church anticipated that once the community pastor was placed, he could advance the mission of helping people find their way back to God by providing point leadership for the Carillon location.
After creating a detailed profile about who Community Christian Church is, their specific role needed, and the qualifications to look for, Tim worked alongside Executive Search Recruiter Ellie Mixon to sift through the applicants. One applicant rose to the top along with a few other qualified candidates. By the time the first round of candidates was presented to Community’s staff, Tim and Ellie were confident that the search was over.
Result
That star candidate was David Israel, coming from a lead pastor position in St. Louis, Missouri. He brings in extensive senior leadership experience spanning nearly 30 years. He also is a self-published author and possesses a Master of Divinity degree. With his impressive background and a heart devoted to serving the Lord, he was offered to join Community Christian Church as Community and Teaching Pastor. He and his wife, Nancy, have since joined the team, relocated to Illinois, and begun leadership for the tight-knit community at Community’s Carillon campus.
