Calvary Baptist School (CBS) is a K-12 private school offering a challenging educational program in a nurturing Christian environment. The purpose of CBS is to develop godliness of character and action in the lives of our students. The school functions to be an extension of Christian homes and reinforces the Biblical values taught at church and home.
Opportunity
Calvary Baptist School needed to fill the Head of School role. Once found, the Head of School would be responsible for all academic, personnel, business, and developmental matters of the school. The systems and progress at CBS would be stuck in a state of transition until the search team could fill this essential position.
Solution
Not being willing to risk the quality of this hire, CBS partnered with Vanderbloemen to efficiently find their ideal candidate. Soon, Executive Search Consultant Chantel McHenry met with the search team, including teachers, parents, the principal, and the Board of Directors. Chantel took what the search team described and developed a profile for CBS’s dream candidate.
The Head of School would be expected to carry out all of their duties to the glory of God and the benefit of the educational program. For that reason, this person would need to have the faith of a shepherd and the experience of an academic leader. The right candidate will have a mind for managing budgets and curriculum while having a social battery that never runs out of charge.
Chantel scanned the candidate pool and applicants to identify the most promising individuals worth presenting to the search team. She conducted in-depth interviews and noted what candidates had that matched with CBS’s needs.
Result
Among the qualified candidates, Robert May shone. Robert was able to articulate his passion for the Word, aligning perfectly with Calvary Baptist School’s theology. Robert has experience as an educator and administrator around the world in Christian schools, with proven capability in all of the components of the Head of School role. With two relevant master’s degrees, Robert exceeded CBS’s hopes for an educated candidate. After a glowing recommendation from Chantel, and CBS’s interviews, Robert gladly joined the team as Head of School.
Robert, with his wife and three children, moved with excitement from Sewell, NJ to Lansdale, PA. After receiving a warm welcome, he fully embraced the purpose at CBS as his own, becoming the spearhead of the school’s mission.
