COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado – First Presbyterian Church Colorado Springs has expanded its leadership team with a key hire, Michael Thornton, stepping in to serve as their new Assistant Pastor of Discipleship. Michael joins First Presbyterian Church Colorado Springs after previously serving as the Youth and Young Adult Pastor at St. James Presbyterian Church in Littleton, Colorado.
First Presbyterian Church Colorado Springs, located at the eastern foot of the Rocky Mountains in Colorado Springs, serves more than 2,000 members each week and has been a pillar of faith in the state of Colorado and the Presbyterian - ECO denomination since 1872, bringing a rich heritage and tradition of faith to their community.
Vanderbloemen, serving clients with a greater purpose, including churches, schools, nonprofits, family offices, and values-based businesses, loves the whole church and is honored to have partnered with First Presbyterian Church Colorado Springs on this vital and important hire.
“It is exciting to see how the Lord brought Michael and First Pres together. He has a heart to serve Christ's kingdom and will do a fabulous job in the Colorado Springs community,” Executive Search Consultant Brian Jensen said.
Michael joins the staff of First Presbyterian Church Colorado Springs after leading youth and young adults to Christ through the ministries at St. James, in addition to being on their preaching team and providing additional leadership and discipleship to the staff and session. In his experience in ministry and as a pastor, he also brings with him missionary experience, where he served three years in active missions in East Africa. An Assistant Pastor of Discipleship role is a natural next step for him, and he and his wife and family are excited to join the community of faith at First Presbyterian Church in Colorado Springs.
Established in 1872 by missionary Rev. Sheldon Jackson, First Presbyterian has an influential legacy in the city of Colorado Springs. Unapologetically Evangelical and Reformed, First Pres is a leading member of ECO (A Covenant Order of Evangelical Presbyterians) since 2012. A true multigenerational church, First Pres has something for everyone. It holds two traditional worship services and two contemporary worship services each Sunday morning, bringing people together in genuine worship as they seek the Lord. In 2017, a Contemporary Worship Center was finished, the first intentionally-designed center of its kind in downtown Colorado Springs. They look forward with anticipation to all the Lord is doing in their midst in this new season of leadership.
