UNION CITY, Tennessee – First Baptist Church in Union City, Tennessee is expanding its leadership team with a key hire, with Dr. Matthew Nance now serving as their new Senior Pastor.

First Baptist Church Union City ministers to more than 200 weekly attendees and has served as a pillar of faith in their community for 144 years.

"I had the privilege of working with First Baptist Church, Union City, walking them through the succession process of their retiring pastor and helping them find their new Senior Pastor,” Executive Search Consultant Brian Dunks said. “The search committee, led by Bob Carpenter, served well and did everything that was asked of them and more. It was encouraging to watch God orchestrate the whole process to help them identify Matthew Nance as their next Senior Pastor."

Matthew joins the staff at FBC Union City after previously serving as a church planter with Connect Austin Church. He also brings extensive senior leadership and global missions experience to his new role, making him a natural fit for FBC Union City. Matthew joins the Union City community along with his wife, Cheryl. They have two adult children and one granddaughter.

In 1867, some 20 baptized believers met and organized the First Baptist Church of Union City under the leadership of Rev. R.E. McGowan. Dr. Fred Kendall, First Baptist’s longest-serving pastor, led in the completion of the Children’s Building and the Sanctuary in which attendees worship today. In more recent years, Kare Bear Preschool was opened and has grown year after year to a current enrollment of 160 children.

God has greatly blessed First Baptist over 144 years. Their goal is to be a blessing and a witness as they faithfully serve Him in everything they do. They look forward to all God will do through them and in them in the coming years, especially as they enter a new season of senior leadership. Vanderbloemen is honored to have partnered with First Baptist Church Union City on this vital and important hire and is thrilled for them in this next season of leadership.
