Old Skool Café is a cutting-edge violence prevention program that uses a youth-run, jazz restaurant model to empower at-risk, formerly incarcerated and foster care youth through workforce development in a supportive environment.  We embrace evidence-based practices to help young people heal from the inside out, replacing cycles of incarceration and poverty with a sense of community, purpose and the confidence needed to fulfill their destiny.

Old Skool Cafe is a faith-based, violence prevention program that provides job training, employment, and wrap-around support through collaborative partners, using the vehicle of a jazz restaurant run by at-risk, formerly incarcerated, and foster care youth ages 16-22.

OSC has been growing steadily and is now seeking to accelerate expansion. OSC is seeking a mission-driven, strategic, and process-minded leader with experience scaling an organization, leading a management team, and developing a performance-based culture among a group of diverse, talented individuals. Importantly, the successful Head of Operations will have the skills, sensitivity, and confidence to cultivate the strengths each member of the team brings to the mission.

About the Head of Operations:

The Head of Operations (HOO) will oversee all operations at Old Skool Cafe’s (OSC) and provide leadership, mentorship, and guidance to the OSC team, in addition to improving the effectiveness of the organization’s operations and programs.

Leadership, Mentorship & Culture

  • The HOO is responsible for leading the internal operations of the organization, partnering with the Founder & CEO (whose focus is on external priorities such as fundraising, public relations, and partnerships)

  • Serve as the leader of operations of Old Skool Cafe providing overall leadership and strategic direction to the internal workings of the organization, ensuring the vision, mission, and core values of the organization are realized

  • In collaboration with the Founder, Board, and Executive Team, determine strategies to move the organization forward through effective strategic and operational planning; set goals, create and implement actions plans, and evaluate the process and results

  • Keep the CEO and the Board fully informed on the condition of the organization and important factors influencing it.

  • Lead the performance management process that measures and evaluates progress against goals for the organization

  • Provide for all staff a strong day-to-day leadership presence; bridge regional operations and support an open-door policy among all staff, and inspire a positive team culture

Restaurant Business Operations and Youth Program

  • Oversee business operations (restaurant, catering and events) and all parts of the program.

  • Lead and manage finance, technology, and human resources 

  • Develop the annual operations plan and budget ensuring organizational budget guidelines are maintained by controlling expenses and implementing cost-saving measures when possible

  • Oversee all budgeting, accounting, reporting, providing analysis and directing response 

  • Produce and implement a Balanced Scorecard metric throughout the organization

  • Cultivate the core values of Old Skool Cafe within the organization

  • Instill a human capital development and “coaching” culture within OSC; upgrade human resources functions including: training, development, compensation and benefits, employee relations, performance evaluation and recruiting

  • Analyze the current technology infrastructure and scope out the next level of information technology and financial systems that support the growth of specific programs and the organization overall

  • Manages employee performance by establishing clear goals and expectations, tracking progress against the goals, ensuring timely feedback, and addressing performance problems and issues promptly  

Growth 

  • In collaboration with the CEO, lead and implement strategic plans for the company’s development, growth and expansion

  • Lead management team in setting policies and determining strategies to meet or exceed revenue, profit, and cash flow goals

Qualifications

We’re looking for a uniquely gifted leader who is passionate, bold, highly professional, humble, confident, emotionally intelligent, and spiritually mature.  

  • Seven (7) or more years experience leading successful restaurant or hospitality operations and managing a diverse team 

  • Experience with nonprofit organizations, preferably in the youth development space, is preferred 

  • Strong organizational abilities including planning, project management, people development, and driving improvements

  • Solid budget management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision-making and reporting

Benefits

Compensation: $120,000-$130,000 per year
