Meet North Sound Church

North Sound Church is a place where people can meet Jesus,  engage in life-giving community, and everyone is welcome. We believe in creating a space where people can have authentic encounters with Christ, discover their gifts and use them for God's glory.

About the Associate Pastor:

The Associate Pastor for Discipleship is charged with responsibilities and has authority in five general areas.

  1. Serve as a member of the pastoral ministry team.

  2. Provide leadership and organization for the Connect function of the church.

  3. Provide leadership and organization for the Grow function of the church.

  4. Provide leadership and organization for the Serve function of the church.

The Associate Pastor Responsibilities Include: 

Pastoral responsibilities as a church leader, team member, mentor, and caregiver.

  1. Serve the vision of North Sound Church as a spiritual leader.

  2. Work carefully and effectively with fellow staff members in an effort to achieve an effective team.

  3. Mentor and equip members of the staff, discipleship ministries team and members of the congregation where appropriate.

  4. Preach 12-15 times a year or as requested by the Senior Pastor. 

  5. Provide for the care of the congregation, particularly those in the Discipleship Ministry.

Connect

  1. Oversee the front end assimilation process in the life of NSC. Establish processes and systems for effectively welcoming and assimilation visitors and newcomers.

  2. Establish tracking system and execution for following through on assimilation to include: Connect Card, welcome letter, pastoral phone call, welcome desserts and /or dinners for eight, baptism, membership, directory review (at least quarterly).

  3. Introduce those who are new to the congregation to an opportunity to serve in a group, task, or role.

 Grow

  1. Respond to those who indicate a desire to make a Christian commitment or to follow Jesus Christ more intentionally.

  2. Provide for the opportunity for mentoring for all attenders of North Sound Church.

  3. Develop and implement a pathway of discipleship including small groups and huddles along with mentoring, classes, and retreats for those at North Sound Church to engage in spiritual transformation and maturity.

  4. Develop resources for discipleship in the home.

  5. Provide leadership to the Prayer Ministry including helping individuals come to a place of interaction with God’s Spirit in and around us.

 Serve

  1. Broaden the base of ministry of North Sound Church by promoting participation in ministry, increasing stewardship of time and personal fulfillment through ministry.

  2. Identify the skills, heart, abilities, personality, and experience of all attenders of North Sound Church.

  3. Integrate new attenders into ministry, increase retention, develop a sense of belonging, facilitate a sense of personal contribution to ministry, and develop a stronger sense of community with new attenders.

  4. Expand the base of leadership at North Sound Church by enabling leaders through regular training programs.

  5. Assist in recruitment of volunteers for internal and external organizations and missions. (This is a collaborative effort with other staff and with ministry partners.)

  6. Facilitate need-meeting ministries in the community to include Marriage, Parenting, Financial, and other courses as helpful.

Other Duties:

  1. Assist in the general ministry of the congregation. 

  2. Other duties as assigned.

What You Bring: 

The following describes many of the characteristics of the ideal candidate for the Associate Pastor for Discipleship :

Education & Experience

  • A Bachelor's Degree is required. 
  • A Masters Degree in Bible, Theology or Ministry is preferred, but not required
  • 5 years experience in church leadership 

Personal Characteristics & Qualifications

  • Possesses a heart for Jesus and the Gospel.
  • Is a mature Christian with the experience, gifts, and skills necessary to fulfill the responsibilities.
  • Possesses strengths in planning, organizing, leading, motivating, and team development.
  • Possesses strong Biblical and theological knowledge
  • Demonstrates clear and effective communication skills.
