Meet First Baptist Church of Burleson:
First Baptist Burleson is a Southern Baptist church that values congregational autonomy and Baptist tradition. Considering this, we endorse the 1963 Baptist Faith and Message of the Southern Baptist Convention while reserving the right to worship and govern as the congregation deems fit. The Church is Christ's body on Earth. The Church's responsibility is to serve the Lord with the goal of preaching the gospel to the whole world, and to minister to others in Jesus' name, in effect, doing whatever Jesus would do if He were still here in the flesh.
About the Lead Pastor:
The Lead Pastor serves the church by providing spiritual leadership to the congregation through preaching, teaching, vision-casting, and shared pastoral care to the Body of Christ through developing, organizing, training, empowering, and supporting members, leadership, and the community at First Baptist Burleson as the congregation strives to live out its purpose.
The Lead Pastor is to focus on these primary goals: (1) spiritual teaching for the Church under the authority and direction of God as revealed through His Holy Spirit and Scripture, (2) leading and directing worship services of the Church, (3) Bible study and preparation for evangelical preaching and teaching, (4) discerning and communicating the vision for the Church, and (5) commitment to prayer and growth in personal discipleship.
The Lead Pastor Responsibilities Include:
Preaching and Teaching
Serve as “principal” preacher while leading a team of teachers/preachers who faithfully preach God’s word in worship services and other settings.
Intermittent teaching/training/discipleship of the congregation and its leaders.
Pastoral Care
Intercessory Prayer
Calling on the sick
Membership Calling
Limited Counseling
Directing public worship
Administering Lord’s Supper
Baptisms
Baby Dedications
Officiate Weddings/Funerals as needed
Managing conflict
What You Bring:
The following describes many of the characteristics of the ideal candidate for the Lead Pastor:
Education & Experience
Post-graduate (Masters) degree from an accredited Southern Baptist Seminary or other institution whose teachings are consistent with the Southern Baptist Faith and Message of 1963.
A Doctoral degree (D.Min or Ph.D) is preferred but not required.
15 years of proven ministerial leadership and pastoral experience at a comparable church is preferred
Previous experience in a Senior Pastor role is preferred but not required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Proven healthy, high-capacity executive leader

Possesses strong teaching, shepherding, and vision-casting gifts
Collaborative, team player
Loves connecting with people
Has a track record of growth
Strong organizational, strategic, and management skills
